Pro tiers at $100, $200 and $500 add always-on dots agents, ChatGPT Space and much higher limits; only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast. What common AI stacks cost per year
| Stack | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| Student: ChatGPT Go only | $8 | $96 |
| Professional: ChatGPT Plus | $20 | $240 |
| Writer: Claude Pro (annual) | $17 | $200 |
| Marketer: ChatGPT Plus + Canva Pro | $20 + $12 | $240 + $144 = $384 |
| Power user: ChatGPT Plus + Claude Pro + Perplexity Pro | $60 | $720 (or $680 with Claude annual) |
| Developer: Claude Max 5x | $100 | $1,200 |
The arithmetic shows why stacking subscriptions adds up quickly. Three $20 plans cost $720 a year. Many people get most of the value from one paid assistant plus free tiers of the others.
Save money: Pay for one main assistant, use free tiers for the rest, choose annual billing where it exists (Claude, Midjourney, Ideogram), and use student offers. Our guides to saving on AI subscriptions and annual vs monthly plans show more ways.
Fine print: what the price does not tell you
- Usage limits, not unlimited use. A $20 plan buys a usage allowance, not unlimited access. Claude Pro resets every five hours with possible weekly caps, and ChatGPT Plus shares one allowance between Work and Codex across five-hour and weekly windows. Heavy users on the same plan can hit limits in very different amounts of time.
- Credits for creative work. Image, video and voice tools such as Firefly, Midjourney and ElevenLabs bill in credits or GPU minutes. A plan that looks cheap can run out quickly if you generate video.
- Taxes and currency. Indian prices often include 18% GST, while USD prices usually exclude tax. Card payments in dollars may add foreign transaction fees.
- App store pricing. Subscribing through the Apple App Store or Google Play can cost more than paying on the web, and the subscription is managed by Apple or Google.
- Annual lock-in. Annual plans save money but are hard to cancel mid-year. Try a tool monthly first, then switch to annual once you know you will keep it.
- Team minimums. Business plans often require at least two seats, such as Claude Team and ChatGPT Business, and some features need an admin to enable them.
Before you subscribe, write down the one or two tasks you need the tool for, test them on the free tier for a week, and check which limit you actually hit. That tells you whether you need a paid plan at all, and which tier.

For most people one $20 plan, chosen by the kind of work you do, plus free tiers of the others is the best value. Prices and plan features change often, and some vary by country, so confirm current prices on each provider’s official pricing page before you subscribe.
