Entity SEO
Give search engines and AI systems one clear, consistent account of who you are, what you offer and where you work.
Ideal client
Businesses with a common name, several brands, a recent rebrand or conflicting details online.
Request an AEO AuditEngines think in things, not keywords
Search engines and AI systems try to understand the world as a set of entities: people, companies, products, places and the relationships between them. When an assistant describes your business, it is drawing on what it believes about the entity behind your name. If that picture is blurred, because your company shares a name with another one, has changed its name, lists different addresses on different sites or describes its services three different ways, the description it gives will be blurred too. Entity SEO is the work of making that picture sharp and consistent.
Common entity problems we fix
- Name confusion. Your brand shares a name with an unrelated company, product or person, and engines mix the two up.
- Conflicting facts. Different founding dates, addresses, phone numbers or service lists appear on your site, social profiles, directories and press coverage.
- A vague offer. Your own pages never state plainly what you do, for whom and where, so engines fill the gap from other sources.
- Invisible people. Founders and experts are not described anywhere an engine can connect to the company, which weakens the case for your expertise.
- Old identities. A rebrand or merger left the old name dominant in the sources engines read.
How we approach it
1. Write the fact sheet
We agree a single, approved description of your organisation with you: legal and trading names, what you offer, who you serve, where you operate, key people, founding details and official profiles. Everything else is checked against it.
2. Audit where you are described
We collect how your business appears on your own site, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, industry directories, review platforms, data providers and press. We also check how AI assistants currently describe you, because their errors show which sources they trust.
3. Make your own site the clearest source
Your about, team, contact and service pages should state the facts plainly. We strengthen those pages and add structured data, such as Organization markup with official profiles listed in sameAs, Service markup on service pages and Person markup for authors and experts, where it reflects what is on the page.
4. Correct the outside record
We update the profiles you control and request corrections where others hold outdated information. For local businesses, this overlaps with our local SEO work on listings and citations.
5. Recheck the answers
After the changes have had time to be recrawled, we ask the same brand questions again and record whether descriptions improved.
Typical deliverables
- Approved brand fact sheet
- Consistency audit across site, profiles and directories
- Organization, Service, LocalBusiness and Person markup where it applies
- Rewrites or improvements for about, team, author and contact pages
- Profile and listing correction log
Entity work underpins everything else in answer engine optimization. It is also one of the few AEO tasks with a clear finish line, which makes it a good place to start. Our guide to schema markup for AEO covers the markup side in more detail.
Questions about entity SEO
Do I need a Wikipedia page?
No. Wikipedia has strict notability rules, and creating a page about your own company usually breaks them. Consistent facts on your site, profiles and reputable third-party sources do most of the work for most businesses.
Will schema markup fix how AI describes us?
Markup helps machines read facts that are already on your page. It does not override what other sources say. That is why we pair it with clearer page copy and corrections to outside profiles.
How do I know if engines are confused about my brand?
Ask the major assistants a few simple questions about your company and compare the answers with your fact sheet. Wrong locations, merged competitors or outdated services are the usual signs. An AI search visibility audit does this systematically.
